Sunnyside proudly continued one of its longest-standing traditions this week as students welcomed their grandparents to campus for a heartfelt Grandparents Day celebration. The special event, rooted deeply in the school’s history, brings generations together for a full day of connection, joy, and Sunnyside spirit.
The morning kicked off with lively class performances, where students sang, danced, and showcased creative displays prepared especially for their guests. Grandparents filled the room with smiles and applause, cheering on their grandchildren with pride.
After the performances, families made their way outdoors to support students in the annual Turkey Trot. Grandparents lined the track, encouraging their runners as they dashed toward the finish line in one of Sunnyside’s most anticipated fall traditions.
The celebration continued with a classic Thanksgiving-style lunch, complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy—an annual favorite that brings everyone around the table to share a warm meal and good company.
This year’s festivities wrapped up with an extra treat: many parents and grandparents stayed after lunch to enjoy a home soccer game. Spirits were high as both Sunnyside teams brought home victories, adding even more excitement to an already memorable day.
Grandparents Day once again proved to be a beautiful reminder of the strong family ties and community pride that make Sunnyside such a special place to learn and grow.
